SECTION 2: RESEARCH INTO EXAMPLES OF COMPARITABLE PRODUCTS: Jaws

The next opening scene of a thiller film that I saw was from the 1975 classic 'Jaws'. The film imediatly uses merky blue colours from underwater in the ocean and fast moving cameras with pacey orchestral music. This creates a deadly personification affect for the shark that was trying to be shown. The film then cuts to a campfire, where we see a group of young people gathered around it in the late evening. They are all in a joyful, sociable mood with some of them listening to a guitar. This represents warmth and safety. We then see a shot of a young male looking at a female, called Cindy . They are both drunk, and they start running down the beach towards the sea. The fact that Cindy was young, blonde and pretty almost presents herself as bait for the male to run into the sea with her.

At this stage, there is no music being played in the film. Although this could still represent peace, there is a possibilty for this to also also be a warning. As she runs into the sea, camera shots of the horizon from the shore show how Cindy was venturing into the unknown. The lighter blues of the sea are from closer to the shore, whilst further away darker shades of blue stretch further and further out until it reaches the horizon.
